We discuss the possible absence of the J=0 and I=1 fixed-pole and A_2 Regge-pole terms in the longitudinal part of the p-n difference of the forward virtual Compton amplitude. ΔT_L, at least in the Bjorken scaling limit. We write down an unsubtracted dispersion relation for ΔT_L to show that the condition for the Cottingham formula to converge is R~q^2/2ν^2 in the scaling limit. We estimate the deep inelastic contribution to the p-n mass difference by use of the recent experimental data and find it too small to be able to reverse the wrong sign unless a parameter appearing in the expression for R is large negative.
