The angular distributions of the elastic and inelastic scatterings of heavy ions from nuclei are analyzed. The strong absorption model is employed to the elastic scattering and the inelastic scattering exciting the target or/and projectile. The inelastic scattering amplitudes are evaluated by making use of the derivative relation of Austern and Blair. A good agreement with the experimental data is obtained. The deformation lengths β_IR are determined from the inelastic scattering data, which are found to be consistent with previous analyses.
