• We study dynamics of Chern-Simons theories by using type IIB superstring brane configurations which include a (p, q)5-brane. Our construction of brane configurations gives a systematic classification of possible supersymmetric three-dimensional gauge theories. We also find that the duality and vacuum structure of Maxwell Chern-Simons theories can be geometrically understood in the brane picture.
