We study the chiral symmetry breaking in the strongly coupled compact U(1) gauge theory with charged fermions and scalars. The scalar field induces a symmetry restoring second order phase transition and shields the confining forces, so that a heavy non-confined fermion exists in the spectrum. We discuss the perspectives of the continuum limit at the transition.
