A Characterization of the Detailed Balance from a Viewpoint of the Onsager-Machlup Theory

For the so-called system size expansion model ∂p(t,y)/∂t=ε^<-1>∫dr[w(y-εr,r)p(t,y-εr)-w(y,r)p(t,y)](ε↓0), we obtain the circulation of the probability currents by using the Onsager-Machluo theory. We give a necessary and sufficient condition for the detailed balance to hold: detailed balance ⇔ circulation≡0 ⇔ probabilities of clockwise and couterclockwise motions agree with each other. It is also shown circulation≡0 ⇒ time reversibility of the most probable path.
