The explicit formulae up to next-to-leading order in quantum chromodynamics are discussed for the moments of the Q^2 dependent singlet-quark and gluon distribution functions in deep inelastic lepton-nucleon scattering. The Nachtmann moments of F_2<e,μN> are used to determine experimentally the free parameters in these formulae for all n from 2 to 6. Following the method of Bosetti et al., we show that the resulting Q^2 evolutions of the singlet-quark and gluon moments are in fairly good agreement with the experimental data in the Q^2 region of interest (except for Q^2>10 GeV^2 and n>3). The effects of the next-to- leading order corrections on these two moments are also discussed here.
