Widths of Λ single-particle levels in finite nuclei due to ΛΝ→ΛΝ Auger transitions are calculated, using density-dependent effective ΛΝ interactions derived from the Nijmegen soft-core OBE potential. The results show that the Λ width in nuclei is very small, and is consistent with experiment. Next we consider Σ^0 states in nuclei. First, the mean field for the Σ constructed from a new effective ΣΝ force is discussed. Then, the Σ→Λ conversion width of the Σ^0 0s-state in ^<40>Ca is evaluated. In this case the width is about 11 MeV and 5.7 MeV for the effective ΣΝ→ΛΝ transition potentials based on the Nijmegen soft-core OBE potential and the model D, respectively.
