The significance of the so-called coarse graining of microscopic states of the macroscopic system in the irreversible process is discussed, by regarding a certain contraction of the detailed microscopic states as the coarse graining, where the contraction depends on the observation concerned. On the basis of the variation principle of irreversible processes, the present paper claims that the irreversibility immediately results from the contraction of total microscopic information about the system without any approximation. Practically, the conduction process is investigated in detail, where the component of the density operator even with respect to time reversal is completely eliminated by the contraction and the final variational expression for the conductivity reduces to a functional purely of the odd component.
