The particle-core coupling mechanism is studied for odd-A nuclei in the transitional region. Basis wave functions are constructed by projecting eigenstates of angular momentum out of deformed intrinsic states. It is shown that the present model becomes identical with the Bohr-Mottelson strong coupling model in the large deformation limit. Energy spectra, B(E2) values and quadrupole moments are calculated for the La-isotopes.
