Using an approximate wave function for the donor electron of an ionized donor pair, the energy eigenvalue has been calculated under the influence of an external static magnetic field and the hyperfine interaction with the donor nuclei. The electron spin resonance spectrum consists of four lines according to the four possible combinations of the spin states of the two nuclei of a given pair, which is determined by the Zeeman and the hyperfine coupling. According to the variety in the spread of the electronic wave function over the two nuclei, which is due to the potential difference between the two ions of the pair, the spectra of four lines vary over a definite range of frequency which is four times as large as the hyperfine splitting of an isolated donor spectrum. With this particular model, the spectral intensity is calculated for the case of a compensated n-type semiconductors, taking the random spatial distribution of impurities into account. It turns out that there appears a sizable spectral density between the two hyperfine peaks. It is suggested that this contribution, which is markedly different from those of isolated donors or neutral pairs of donors, may be considered to be at least a partial origin of the broad background observed experimentally. Also from the results of the calculation, a qualitative information is obtained about the actual distribution of the ionized donor pairs. That is the polar pairs exceed in number over the homopolar pairs and the ratio of the former over the latter decreases with increasing concentration.
