On the Existence of Poles in the Unphysical Sheet

It is proved that in the unstable Lee model the unstable particle propagator must have poles in the second Riemann sheet. The same holds in the Chew-Low static pion theory if we neglect the contributions from the inelastic processes. The (3/2, 3/2) resonance state is introduced as poles in the second sheet and it is shown that the introduction of these poles is not sufficient to make the theory consistent, though it removes a considerable amount of discrepancies between the theory with no pole and experiment. Two alternative interpretations of this result are presented and discussed.
