The possible existence of "non-Regge" singularities in the helicity amplitudes is discussed. When the Mandelstam cuts are absent in the J-plane, the signatured partial-wave amplitudes have Gribov-Pomeranchuk essential singularities at "sense-nonsense" and "nonsense-nonsense" values of J with the wrong signature. When the Mandelstam cuts are present, it is shown that the Gribov-Pomeranchuk essential singularities are eliminated from both sheets of the J-plane, that there exist fixed branch points at "sense-nonsense" values of J with the wrong signature and fixed simple poles at "nonsense-nonsense" values of J with the wrong signature, and that these fixed singularities do not contribute to the asymptotic behaviour of the total amplitudes.
