Inelastic π-N and N-N Collisions in the Parton Model

The deep inelastic N-N scattering cross section at high energies is calculated by using the parton model. The one-boson exchange interaction is expediently assumed between par tons. The result is shown to be consistent with the experimental data. The cross section is also calculated in the usual 3-quark model to show that the parton model is better than the usual 3-quark model. The constant asymptotic behaviour of the π-N total cross section at high energies is obtained by taking into account the contribution of the non-"wee" partons. This constant asymptotic behaviour comes essentially from the "background" part in agree ment with the Freund-Harari conjecture.
