Fermionic External Field and Space Compactification in the Heterotic String Theory

An interaction of the heterotic string with a fermionic massless external field is investigated in the manifestly Lorentz-covariant lagrangian formulation. Further compactification of a part of the 10 dimensions, as in the orbifold compactification model or Calabi-Yau compactification model, is necessary to allow such a coupling. The theory naturally contains the "quark fields" of Eguchi-Higashijima.
