After a vital fixation of a cat into which Orth's solution was infused through the aorta, the peroneal nerve (left side) was taken out, fixed with Orth's solution again, then with Mutler's solu I ion and was cut into about 8-10μ thick refrigerated cross sections which, given a myelin sheath staining (Kultschitzky's hematoxylin method), were included on an 100μ lattice-work graduated ob]ect glass with 5 % glycerin-gelatin solution. Then authors have speculated about the relationship between the myelin sheath and the axis cylinder under a microscope of 1,000 magnificat ion. The results obtained were as follows. The percentage (a/d×100=g)of the ratio of (he diameter (a) of axis cylinder to that (d) of fiber is smaller in small fibers and larger in larger fibers, the relative thickness of myelin sheath is greatest in smaller fibers, and tends to get smaller according as the fiber diameter is bigger, but there was a little difference between the muscle branch and the cutaneous branch, and the muscle branch traces a line give by the expression y = 1.48x + 38.58, the cutaneous branch traces by y = 0.5x + 48.33
