This study tried to quantify urban canopy structure in the city of Nagoya in terms of building height-area distribution, vegetation height-area distribution etc., to clarify relationship between these parameters and thermal environment, and to propose a method for improvement of the ventilation of urban atmosphere. First, the relationship between urban structure and thermal environment was examined by the observed data analysis. The data consist of building, vegetation and land-use types for each grid cell of 500m × 500m. Second, these data were used to run a vertical one-dimensional meteorological model, and the results were examined if they could reproduce observed thermal situation.
