With a view to obtaining fundamental data on the cultivation of Hoorokutake (Daedalea dickinsii (Berk.) Yasuda), the influence of various media, addition of saccharides and nitrogen compounds, an optimum pH, optimum temperature, the most suitable C-N ratio of media and an aptitude of several trees on its growth of the fungus were examined. The results obtained are as follows. Of the various media, natural medium gave superior growth. Pfeffer medium was used as a basal medium. When the nitrogen compounds were added to the basal medium individually at 0.02% concentration as a nitrogen atom, it was revealed that casamino acid, polypeptone, meat extract and dried beer yeast were good nitrogen source. Glucose and sucrose were especially good carbon source for mycelial growth, and the most suitable C-N ratio of media was about 50. D. dickinsii which grows most abundantly on PSA medium, and has an optimum temperature of about 25℃, and an optimum pH of about 5.0. The fungus grew fairly well on sawdust medium using Kunugi, Konara or Shii.
