The following results were obtained when principal factors composing the toe of aged males were investigated by factor analysis. 1) There are four principal factors composing the toe. Of these, three are related to the toe. They represent the ratio of toe length to foot breadth, ratios of fifth toe length to second toe length and foot breadth, and ratios of first toe length to second toe length and foot breadth, respectively. The remaining one factor represents the type characterized by increased inside half foot breadth and decreased first toe angle or decreased inside half foot breadth and increased first toe angle. 2) When the shape of the toes is classified based on toe-related factors, the estimated probability density is found to be highest (31.8%) for the type with the scores of three factors classified as "medium". It is followed by six types characterized by increased or decreased ratios of toe length to foot breadth, increased or decreased ratios of fifth toe length to second toe length, or increased or decreased ratios of first toe length to second toe length. The estimated density probability of these types is 7.4%. 3) The shape of the toe varies to a smaller extent in the aged males than in the adult females and is similar to that of children. These differences may be ascribable to the facts that the skeleton of males is not easily deformed and that the incidence of toe injuries due to pressure by shoes is lower in males, because the toe portion of shoes for males is generally loose as compared with that of shoes for females.
