Biological oscillations in physiological level show several characteristic features, for example, a resting period of heartbeat, a spiking oscillation in nerve system and a frequency modulation of impulse. These are explained to be originated by the specific mechanism, respectively. The resting period in the repeated generations of action potential at Sino-atrial node in heart may be related to the threshold nature of the potential. In general, it has been well known that an interaction of nonlinear oscillating systems produces new distinct features such as a frequency different from the originals, synchronization, soliton wave and even a chaotic periodicity. The author has attempted to reveal the basic frame on the periodic generations of action potential in the heartbeat and lung respiration, using mathematical model derived from metabolic pathways. In this work, the principal assumption has been that the action potential is a reflection of ion distribution between the inside and outside of cell membrane and that the oscillating generations of action potential is originated from the oscillating change in the ion distribution. Ion distribution will strongly relate to the forward and reverse permeability of ion through the cell membrane. Thus, it is finally necessary to postulate mathematical formulae on the rate of change in the permeability and that in the amount of a metabolite governing the alternative change in the ion concentrations. During computational analyses on the mathematical formulae related to the action potential, it was confirmed that for the appearance of the distinct oscillatory pattern in heartbeat and respiration the introduction of threshold variable is not necessarily required, but that various specific oscillatory profiles will be explained by the consequence of ordinary interaction of nonlinear oscillatory systems. This paper deals with some evidences for the above statement, obtained by computer simulations of mathematical formulae.
