Reprographic use tungsten halogen lamps with dip-coated infra-red (IR) reflective films have been developed.IR reflective film consisting of multi-layers of Tio_2-Sio_2 is formed from organometallic solutions by a dipping method. To obtain improved Tio_2 film which would be applicable to reprographic use tungsten halogen lamps, various compositions of organometallic solutions have been investigated. For Tio_2 film formed from the newly developed solution has suitable optical properties, the refractive index is higher than 2.1 at 1 um.Tio_2-Sio_2 films (with 16 layers) coated on a quartz tube reflect infra-red ray effectively and transmit visible light highly.Furthermore, to obtain uniform illuminance intensity distribution, a new technology to coat IR reflective film with light diffusing film by a dipping method has been developed.Fig. 1 shows configuration of IR reflective film and light diffusing film coated over IR reflective film.This light diffusing film contains a lot of pits and pores in the metal oxide film and diffuse visible light well. Applying those technologies to reprographic use tungsten halogen lamps, the lamp efficiency increases by 5 - 15%, and at the same time uniform illuminance intensity distribution is obtained.
