Hypnosis has been proven very useful for psychosomatic studies and care. We introduced how suggestive therapies were carried out in our department and also reported on some practical problems we faced. Regarding hypnotizability, the Yatabe-Gilford Personality Test, administered to 59 subjects, showed that healthy individuals generally tended to be hyponotized readily. In the group of psychoneuroses and psychosomatic disorders, 57.8 % of 109 cases were induced in medium trance or better. When other therapies were combined, 50.5% showed marked improvement; while in 44 cases with suggestive therapies only, 61.4 % showed marked improvement or above. As for the relation between depth of hypnosis and therapeutic results, we found the deeper the former, the better the latter. For field practitioners, the following methods seem to be helpful. 1) Direct Suggestion of Symptom-disappearance 2) Direct Suggestion of Disappearance of Attitudes underlying Symptoms 3) Hypnotic Abreaction 4) Induced Hallucinations of Improvement 5) Therapeutic Substitute Symptom Formation, 6) Systematic Desensitization 7) Autosuggestion(Autogenic Training) and 8) Hypnoanalysis We have developed a wider view of suggestion which is not limited solelv to hypnosis, but includes other psychotherapeutic methods, particularly psychoanalysis, existential analysis and Zen. Couldn't it be easier to attain the therapeutic goal of true self-realization by applying to psychoanalysis the particular psychophysiological attitudes which are gained from hypnosis and autosuggestion? We also questioned if hypnotic trance per se really existed, or if it only meant a more cristerized state of the rapport between therapist and patient than that in waking state.
