To date, there have hardly been any sociological studies about Futoko from a regional perspective. The perspective provided in this thesis gives us a clue to the understanding of Futoko as a social and cultural phenomenon. From the analysis of official statistics, we have identified some regional differences in Futoko rates and Futoko densities (the number of Futoko students in a certain size of land). In addition, there is also a correlation between Futoko rate and the level of urbanization. The gap in Futoko rates suggests that Futoko may be influenced by regional context, while the gap in densities suggests that there exists serious regional differential in various situations encountering Futoko students in different regions.
