The purpose of this paper is to understand an apathetic tendency of adolescents in Korea, compared with those in Japan. In study, two scales were developed. Apathetic Tendency consisted of Anhedonia, Avoidance & Passivity and Animus Parental Attitudes consisted of Control & Directions, Emphasis of Effort. Two scales were administered to college students in Japan and Korea (in Japan, 201 males and 66 females. in Korea 170 males and 299 females). In addition, five Korean college students (3 females and 2 males) who had showed higher apathetic tendency, were interviewed. The results were as follows. Firstly, Apathetic Tendency of Korean students appeared higher than Japan. In Korean students, Anhedonia and Avoidance & Passivity in Apathetic Tendency were correlated with Control & Directions which is one of Animus Parental Attitudes of mother. Especially, Avoidance & Passivity in Apathetic Tendency of female was correlated with Control & Directions in Animus Parental Attitudes of mother highly. Secondly, it was found that in Animus Parental Attitudes, only Contorl & Directions was correlated with Apathetic Tendency. Emphasis of Effort was not correlated with Apathetic Tendency. Lastly, in Korean interviewee who showed higher apathetic tendency did not express withdrawal response such as in Japan. Only the traits which were shown in identity confusion appeared in Korean students.
