1. As a rule, the silkworms with the hereditary trait, Naked pupa (symbolized as Nd) spin the cocoons which have thin layer consisted of only sericin and pupate inside them, but in some cases the Nd silkworms can not form the cocoons in spite of spinning the thread, so they are called the naked pupae. These naked pupae are essentially different from the so-called non-spinning silkworms resulting from the hormonal unbalance. 2. It is evident that the Nd gene acts on only the posterior division of silkgland, but not on the anterior or middle division at all. 3. From morphological and histological differences of the posterior divisions of silkglands, Nd traits are subdivided Nd_1 and Nd_2 characters, while there are no differences in cocoon layers of both Nd_1 and Nd_2,because the compositions of cocoon layers are just the same. 4. In the Nd_1 silkgland, the cells or tissues of posterior division are broken and the contents of them are flowed into the gland lumen, while in the Nd_2,on the contrary, the cells or tissues are never broken and secrete the protein, being different from the fibroin as seen in normal silkglands, Moreover the amount of secreted protein is comparatively small. 5. It is obvious that the difference between the manifestations of Nd_1 and Nd_2 is exactly genic and not caused by the peculialities of background. From the data of experiments for crossing beween Nd_1 and Nd_2 and for building up the mosaic silkworms for the Nd_1 and Nd_2 silkglands, it is concluded that Nd_1,Nd_2 and + are multiple alleles, their dominancies being Nd_1>Nd_2>+.
