The purpose of this study was to reveal the cognitive structure of motivation in teaching-training course. Data on motivations in teaching-training course were collected and a 35-item checklist was compiled. Factor analysis by Varimax rotation was performed on the data obtained from 131 junior college (the course of preschool education) students, 104 college (the institute of technology) students and 32 university (the department of education) students. Five distinctive factors were obtained and named as "Intention of the teaching profession" (Factor I), "Yearning for the teaching profession" (Factor II), "Social esteem of the teaching profession" (Factor III), "Utilitarian motivation" (Factor IV) and "Reform motivation" (Factor V). Significant differences in standard factor scores between junior college students, college students and university students were found in Factor I, III, IV, V. The educational implications of the findings are discussed.
