In the end of the Ming Dynasty, the followers of the Taizhou school changed Wang Yangming's theory and with ready intuitive knowledge broke the concept of "learning heavenly principles to get rid of human lust" of Cheng and Zhu's Lixue (理学 a Confucian school of idealist philosophy of the Song Dynasty). This is based on the traditional thought "Shengsheng" (生生 birth after birth). In the period towards the end of the Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Republic of China, the Taizhou school was again discovered, and stimulated by the western philosophy, it gained its modernized appearance. Liang Shuming's intuitionism and Zhu Qianzhi's emotionalism may be regarded as its representatives. If this philosophy of emotion of "Shengsheng" is compared with the Japanese Yanming's theory which is considered more practical than the Chinese Yanming' theory, the latter belongs to extreme asceticism and nihilism.
