医療科学系学生を対象とした化学実験に関する一考察

The laboratory chemistry course in this university mainly consists of 5 themes : (A) glassblowing, (B) qualitative analysis of some metallic cations, (C) synthesis and measurement of absorption spectrum of Co (III) complex, (D) synthesis and melting point measurement of Acetanilide, and (E) synthesis and dyeing test of Methyl Orange, and pH measurement using it. These have been accomplished bearing in mind the following points : (1) laboratory chemistry is a general education subject for the students in a university of medical science and technology, (2) it must answer the diverse needs of the contemporary students with varying characteristics and backgrounds. To evaluate these themes, a questionnaire on the degree of their understanding, interest in the topics, and the method of teaching and guidance by the staff was set out by the students themselves. It was found that (A) , (B) and the dyeing test of (E) aroused their keen interest, because these experiments are intriguing and familiar. On the other hand, (C), (D), and (E), except for the dyeing test, did not awaken their enthusiasm so much, although these topics are quite significant from the viewpoint of not only general chemistry, but also medical science. Described herein are the educational principles we applied, the course plan, and the evaluation by the students.
