By the 2nd century B. C., the Romans had built an affluent society, and their attitude of making much of valour and plain life had changed into that of making much of luxury. In the 1st century B. C., Cicero made a sheme of the Roman philosophy, making an electic of various Greek philosophers' thought. In his works he emphasized the importance of a natural, moderate life. In this article I investigate Cicero' thought on the luxury.
