Education (No.2) Act 1986 in Britain established that the Secretary of State may by regulations make provision requiring local education authorities to secure that the performance of teachers is regularly appraised in accordance with such requirements as may be prescribed. Japanese central government and almost all local governments also had introduced teacher appraisal about 33 years ago. The aim of this article is to see the the difference between teacher appraisal in England & Wales and in Jaoan.
