概要

We prepared dry powders of Kombu (Laminaria japonica) and Wakame (Undaria pinnatifida), and examined their preventive effect on blood pressure in spontaneuosly hypertensive rats. Each powder of the preparations was mixed at a density of 5% into a basal powder diet for breeding, and the rats were given free access to the diet. When we started the treatment of rats at 8 weeks of age, before suffering from hypertention, the blood pressure of the Komubu group and that of the Wakame group were 162 mmHg, and 163mmHg, respectively, whereas that of the control diet group increased over 179 mmHg (p<0.01). In the treatment of rats at 10 weeks of age when the hypertention just began, the Kombu diet demonstrated a curative effect on the hypertension: 167 mmHg in the Kombu diet group was significantly (p<0.05) lower than 196 mmHg of the control group at 17 week old. The Wakame diet did not show such preventive effect. It maybe concluded that these diets have the preventive effect on clinical hypertension.
