The ceramic relief mural, 'Shim Cheong-Jeon' was created and installed in Hyowon Park of Suwon city in 1995. This was intended to imbue citizens with thoughts on filial piety and to become an educational cite for children. Based on the famous Korean tale on filial piety, the mural has 10 protruding scenes surrounded by 11 flat back grounds, all in ceramics. The size of the whole ceramic mural is 2.4×51 meters. The production techniques are based on the traditional ceramic techniques, the relief techniques, and mould & casting. Besides, in coloring Korean traditional five colors were used through spraying. Through an intensive heat of 1280℃, the pastel colorings to intend the intimate connection with the natural environment can accomplish the unique Korean character such as simplicity of Korean traditional walls. Especially, this ceramic relief mural was an example of environmental design which shows the environmental usefulness and aesthetic propriety to harmonize with the peculiar place of Suwon city. In the future, it is necessary to prove the techniques used in the whole producing process and to develop the skills to handle damage that may be caused by natural enviromental changes.
