Many open classes for life-long learning are held on a nationwide scale. Particularly, the courses to decode and study paleography as historical materials attract abundant participants, who are spending much their time to read such documents. The Museum of Meiji University also periodically holds some classes including an introductory course for museums, "the Introduction to 'Paleography World'", and "the Society to Hand down Materials to Posterity" run by people interested. The participants in each class are enthusiastically learning the subjects. We have compiled an index for terminology difficult to read hoping to be helpful with the learners of such classes. The index devised the arrangement of the terminology to make reference by number of strokes possible. This is the first edition, and we are planning the revised and enlarged in time ahead. We appreciate academic obligations, because we were able to refer to preceding instructive materials at the preparation of manuscript.
