The causes of the spectrum compression in surface EMG toward lower frequencies (EMG slowing) during fatiguing contractions were discussed relating with individual variation. The factors which damage muscles were briefly reviewed relating with "the size principle". The strategy and/or ability of motor unit rotation effects on muscle fatigability and disorder. The strategy and ability seems to be different among individuals. Grouping discharges as the origin of the EMG slowing are often seen in the condition of low level Ia input. The low-level Ia input was thought to contribute to the rotation of motor units activity and the grouping discharges. Experimental results, however, were different among subjects and did not support the contribution to the grouping discharges. The differences of the EMG slowing among subjects and muscles were related with the differences in the character of motor units. The grouping discharges seem to be a way to manage fatiguing contractions. The EMG slowing was not thought to relate directly with muscle fatigue.
