Itis known that in a through-type railway truss bridge the stresses supposed to act in the lower chord members are actually shared with the stringers through the lower lateral members and the cross beams, In result the stresses acting in the stringer, the lower lateral members and the joints between them are larger than those assumed in the design to such an extent that they are occasionally damaged. The paper presents analytically how sectional area of the lower lateral members, shearing rigidity of the joints and the horizontal flexural rigidity of cross beams exert influence on the stresses in the lower chord member at center. Finally, possibility of the fatigue damages of lower lateral members, and their joints with stringer is suggested by trial calculations.
