International design exchange has been taking place as an economic activity on the worldwide scale. Ecological design and universal design are now gaining international recognition. In this age of international exchange, however, exchange between and among countries in Asia, in particular, in East Asia is very limited, and no in-depth discussion has been made. Why is that?. China provided East Asian countries with the source of the culture, Korea has given unique symbolic meanings to that, and Japan has firmly established the Japanizing system. It is now the time for designers in these countries to recognize and respect what is common and what is different in their cultures, when they are engaged in their creative activities. Based on some involvement in design education in China, the author considers, with some introspection, the following points: 1. Relation between the perception of "Asia" and aesthetics. 2. From discourses on aesthetics during World War II. 3. Paradigm of Japan-Orient-Asia 4. Perception of a Cross Cultural Creative Age 5. Being involved in design education in China
