SHIMIZU MASANORI (1766-1848) was a famous citizen who lived in Edo city (an ancient name of Tokyo) in the Edo Period. His pen name is SEKIJYO. He excelled in both literary and military arts. He established his private school, and taught his disciples studies of Chinese classics, strategy and gunnery. He suggested practical scholarship, and hated the impractical theory. His pupils that were Japanese feudal lords, warriors and commoners were more than several hundreds in 1830's. But SEKIJYO didn't want for the position and the honor, and went through his life as a teacher of the private tutoring school. And he brought up excellent peoples
