Studies on ethnicity or nation have been very popular today. And the studies on Koreans in Japan, whom could be counted as the one of the ethnic minorities in Japan, are also very important and significant. They have been identified as the objects of discrimination and the people who have been deprived their own culture because of the compelling process of assimilation to Japanese culture. However, now that, many of the third generation Koreans in Japan are living various and meaningful lives. So it is not enough to grasp them as only "the deprived". This paper's purpose is to describe the ethnicity of Koreans in Japan taking note of its generation gap, to present the limitation of the preconceived idea about them, and to reconsider the theory of marginal man in order to turn its image to positive one.
