Generally, Emile Durkheim has been regarded as a theorist of 'functionalism', that is to say, a sociologist of 'integration' and 'consensus'. However, recently, a new and unique interpretation which tries to clarify some viewpoints of 'struggle' and 'conflict' in his 'historical analysis' has come to appear. So, in this paper, by comparing and examining those two opposite standpoints, I attempt to research the proper direction as to the future understanding of Durkheim. And the discussion here is focused on the content of 'socialization' and the essential character of educational systems.
