This paper investigates the transfer and propaeration routes of developed technology with emphasis in the transfer and propagation routes of developed technology through the direct investment of multinational corporations. Then, after investigating the results of the differen types of technology transfer looks for the policies that can improve the results of the transfer and propagation of technology from the viewpoint of developing countries. The objective of direct investment by multinational corporations is to maximize profits and increase their market power, what does not coincide with the expectations of the developing countries of increased level and productivity of their industries through the transfer and propagation of technology. Besides the direct investment by multinational corporations, developing countries desiring that the transfer and introduction of technologies results in their economic development, have a wide range of choices. Direct investment by multinational corporations is just one of them. If direct investment brings desirable results to the receptor country on one hand, it can also have harmful consequences on the other. It can be said that internal factors of the developing country such as its institutions and industrial structure, and also the policies concerning the introduction of technology are the most important aspect in the transfer of technology and the economic development of developing countries. In the transfer of technology and its propagation, developing countries, based in their situation, should chose strategically the pattern of economic development and industrial structure that best fits them. Also, to acquire the technology and propagate it is necessary the active effort, competition and capacity to absorb the technology by the national firms. In conclusion, the capital and the technology chosen and introduced may have negative repercussions in the internal economy of the developing country, and maximization of the positive effects requires the support of the policies of the government and the effort of the firms.
