1. These experiments were carried out in order to know the effects of times treated with auxin (IAA), gibberellin (GA_3) and cytokinin (BAP), and the interaction between them on the elongation of the hypocotyls and the rootings in soybean hypocotyl cuttings. 2. The GA_3-promoted and BAP-inhibited elongation were larger in the epicotyl with increase of treated hours by them, but hardly changed in the hypocotyl. IAA-promoted effects on the maximum length and the number of roots became larger with increase of treated hours, but GA_3 and BAP-inhibited effects on them scarcely changed by difference of treated hours. 3. When IAA, GA_3 and BAP were applied separately to cuttings for two hours at periodic interval during the first twenty-four hours, the promotion or the inhibition by them on the elongation of both hypocotyl and the rootings increased generally in the application of initial stage than later stage. 4. When IAA and GA_3 were applied to the cuttings alone or together at the first day or the second day, the actions of IAA and GA_3 that accerated or supressed on the elongations of both hypocotyls and the rootings were antagonistic with each other. This antagonism between IAA and GA_3 was larger in the case of treatment by growth regulators with inhibited action at the first day. When IAA and BAP were applied to the cuttings in the same way as referred to above, the elongations of both hypocotyls were inhibited synergistic and the rootings were entirely prevented by the application of BAP. 5. When IAA and GA_3 were applied to the cuttings in combination at various concentrations, the decreases of elongation of both hypocotyls were larger in higher concentration of IAA, and this decreasing tendencies were larger in lower concentration of GA_3. The maximum length and the number of roots increased in proportion to in crease of concentration of IAA. The inhibition by GA_3 of IAA-promoted rootings hardly varied by various concentration of GA_3. In combination of IAA and BAP at various concentration, BAP-inhibited elongation of both hypocotyls increased with increase of concentrations of BAP, and this tendency was larger in higher concentration of IAA. The rootings were entirely inhibited in case of all combination of IAA and BAP.
