Childbirth has rarely drawn researcher's attention, as it has been taken for granted that it is solely the concern of pregnant women, who are perhaps the weakest members of society. Childbirth is conducted by rules designated by gynecologist, while very little study has been done on other aspeds like the history of delivery postures or degrees of satisfaction on the part of mothers. It is necessary to study the suitability of the present practice of childbirth from the view point of those giving birth. The author has finished a study of the suitability of delivery postures, and has been conducting a survey since 1984 in a mountain village of Kamisugai, 0zu,Ehime prefecture, where husbands used to attend their wives' deliveries. It is the authors wish to do more research on those mothers who were given active cooperation from their husbands, those husbands who have participated in childbirth, and how the shared experience has affected their relationship and way of thinking.
