Recently, the number of people doing outdoor activities is increasing. Camping, fishing, skiing, snowboarding, scuba diving, mountain climbing, etc. are very popular in modern Japanese society. Especially, auto-camping is one of the most popular outdoor leisure. But it is a relatively new camp style. So it is hastened to found auto-camping grounds in many local districts. These outdoor activities need nature to get sufficient pleasure. Why does nature give pleasure to them? In this paper, what is nature to them, how they recognize nature, what principle work in doing outdoor activity, are studied considering structure of natural cognition. Outdoor activity has a function to set a person free from usualness that restrict one's performance in daily urban life. So he can deviate from his custom and refresh himself with outdoor activity. He, though, might deviate from local customs. This fundamental principle leads to local social problems and makes these problems difficult to solve. Auto-camping is a remarkable outdoor active style. It shows a distinctive way to approach nature from other outdoor activities. In auto-camping style, they bring their own daily life to camping ground, and at the same time, they bring their daily norms with them. These perspectives, considering the relation between outdoor activity and structure of natural cognition, and this theme, outdoor activity and auto-camping, have been dismissed in many of former environmental sociological studies.
