Regrettably, not all the Japanese people are open-minded and willing to accept foreigners to their society. For many foreigners, particularly those who come from Asian countries, Japan is not yet a very comfortable place to live in. For example, many foreigners, including foreign students feel it is very difficult to find owners of apartments who agree to rent rooms to foreigners. Certainly it is most desirable that the Japanese people try to change their mentality and to make their society more open to foreigners. However, since quick and fundamental change of the situation can not be actually expected, a realistic solution would be to change the attitude of foreigners about the situation. Thus I would like to provide the following advices to foreign students : In order to live an agreeable life in Japan, it is worthwhile listening to the wisdom of a famous saying 'When in Rome, do as Romans do.'
