A shot noise is a kind of electric noise in electronic devices due to the shot effect of electron emissions. The formulas which express the mean and the autocovariance of the shot noise are called Campbell's theorem and are widely used in physics and engineering. However, the proofs of this theorem given in various papers and textbooks are mostly incomplete. Here, an easy but rigorous proof of the theorem is presented. First, the Poisson (point) process is defined as a stationary point process on the whole time axis. Then, by using the Poisson process, the shot noise process is defined and is proved to be a stationary stochastic process. Last, a rigorous proof of the Campbell's theorem is given.
