This is a report of the joint research project conducted during the period from 1992 through 1996 at the Intercultural Communication Institute, Kanda University of International Studies on the development of educational videos for intercultural communication. This report covers the background information leading to the initiation of this project, theoretical basis for the video production, summary contents of a total of 8 videos, the results and analysis of the reaction of the students in the class of intercultural communication at the Kanda University of International Studies, together with the future task lying ahead in the promotion of this kind of video production. The paper is concluded with the assertion that the video products based on the contrast-culture method originally developed by Edward C. Stewart are one of the effective ways for promoting intercultural communication education. This is because such video products can provide the viewers with ample opportunities to "sensitizingly" understand their own culture as well as different cultures.
