An extinction analysis was carried out for the counter flow and blunt body forward stagnation region pre-mixed flames under two-dimensional and axially symmetrical viscous compressible laminar boundary layer approximations. A new non-dimensional parameter defined as maximum local Damkohler number was chosen for an extinction criterion of both counter flow and blunt body stagnation region pre-mixed flames. The effects of the concentrations of fuel and oxygen, free stream temperature, activation energy, specific heat at constant pressure and Prandtl number upon the maximum local Damkohler number at extinction have been investigated for both types of flows. It was concluded from the results of this analysis that "extinction" takes place at nearly constant value of the maximum Damkohler number. Furthermore, the results of the present analysis were compared with the case of counter flow diffusion flames and with the other investigaters' extinction parameters.
