A numerical method for two-phase free boundary problem arising in diffusion flame of Burke-Schumann type is proposed. It is revealed, for the first time, that a certain problem of diffusion flame is reduced to a free boundary problem (or Stefan's problem) which has been studied by many physisists and mathematicians for a century. A new method for the numerical solution by a finite difference scheme adopting Crank-Nicolson's difference formula is found. This method is widely applicable to other problems of free boundary such as melting, freezing, evaporation, recrystalization, dissolution, solidification, sublimation and ablation.
