The specimen length in the direction of the heat flow when thermal conductivity of materials containing solid particles (mixture consisting of continuous and discontinuous phase) is measured by the Steady state heat flow comparative method was investigated as the purpose of this research to find a suitable way to measure thermal conductivity of granular solid materials. The experimental results were compared with those of a prediction equation which contains shape factor of discontinuous irregular particles. When the value of d/l was less than 0.1 and volume fraction of discontinuous phase was high, the value (λ_d) of thermal conductivity of granule calculated by the modified Bruggeman's equation fairly well coincided with the experimental one for the two-component mixture of granule and epoxy resin with the error within 10%. d means size of granule and l means the specimen length in the direction of the heat flow. However, when d/l is greater than 0.1,Bruggeman's equation can not be applied to the prediction of the thermal conductivity of granular solid materials because the error increased with the increase of the value d/l.
