This paper aims to show how Walras's pure economic theory was attacked by his contemporary liberal economists in France. They refusedWarlas not only because of his thoughts of socialism and government interference, but also because of his application of mathematics to economic theory. His method of mathematical economics was considered as incompatible with the idea of individual freedom. This misunderstanding arises from their belief that economic theory should be strictly based on the observation of the reality.
