It is possible to operate an induction machine as a self-excited generator when suitable condenser is connected across its terminals. Load characteristics of such a system vary with various circuit conditions. Author analyse these characteristics from an equivarent circuit, assuming that a magnetizing characteristic of an induction generator is expressed by a following equation, i=A(E/ω)+B(E/ω)^3; and obtained following results. The output frequency is approximately determined by the ratio of secondary resistance to load resistance, and diminishes with increase in output power. The output voltage reduces as load increases because of the decresse of output frequency and effective capacitance, which is available to self-excitation of the generator. The effective capacitance is expressed as a complicatcd function included the term of primary resistance and leakage reactance. Moreover, author discussed of the several methods to improve the performance characteristics, and showed that connecting a saturable reactor parallel with condenser good characteristics are obtained.
